Obituary for Betty June Hughes

Betty J. Hughes, 81, of Lewisburg, formerly of Hughes Creek and Havelock, NC, passed away peacefully in her sleep August 23, 2015 surrounded by her loving family.
She was born May 26th, 1934 in Groves, Clay County, WV to the late Emory and Della Barnett Cottrell. She was preceded in death by her loving husbands Ed Chadwick and Calvin Hughes; children, Rickey Chadwick, Vicki Lynn Chadwick; step sons, Charles, Carl, Eddie, Bobby, and James Chadwick; Cottrell; siblings, Vessie, Tressie, Orville, Gladys, Marie, Ruth, Roy and Archie.
Betty made her home in Lewisburg with her daughter and husband, Julie and Mark Samples. She travelled extensively across the country with her daughter Rebecca Hughes Eller and saw many exciting and wonderful places.
She was a member of the Cherry Point Baptist Church in Havelock NC and Hughes Creek Community Church. She was a faithful volunteer and lifetime member of the VFW in Havelock, NC. As a wonderful and giving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, one always felt love and caring anytime visiting with her. She loved her church and Gospel music and her Savior the Lord Jesus Christ with all her heart. Her favorite part of the day was watching “Wheel of Fortune” which she guessed the answer to most every puzzle.
Betty wanted to express her heartfelt thanks and appreciation to her very special Angel, Tracie Brackenrich, for the loving care and companionship during her illness. She so loved visits from friends Joyce Ayersman, Mary Binion, nieces; Angie, Lori, Dee, Linda and nephew, Ken.
She is survived by daughters: Julie (Mark) Samples, Rebecca Hughes (Wayne) Eller, Step daughter: Edith (Harold) Lovell, daughter-in-law: Vicki Chadwick, grandchildren: Richard Gay, Betty Gail Gay, Courtney Tracy, Michael Chadwick and Kryssie Chadwick, Great grandchildren: Gabriel and Abigale Tracy, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Service will be at 1:00 PM Saturday at Hughes Creek Community Church with Pastor Gary Tucker officiating. Burial will follow in Montgomery Memorial Park at London.
