Obituary for Chester Spelock

Chester Spelock, age 93, a resident of Pratt, passed away on February 20, 2015. Born on August 30, 1921 in Holden, West Virginia, he was the son of the late Michael and Rosa Spelock. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Olga Moore, and brothers Eddie and Marion Spelock.
He was married to Peggy Marie Waller on July 8, 1944 in Durham, North Carolina.
He graduated from East Bank High School in 1940 and attended West Virginia University on a football scholarship where he was captain of the Mountaineer football team. He received his bachelor’s and master’s degree from West Virginia University following World War II in which he served with the Army Field Artillery 78th Lightening Division. He was honored as an outstanding Alumnus of East Bank High School in 2000.
Chester was a world cultures and history teacher and coach at East Bank High School for 30 years where he coached Jerry West during his early years in high school basketball. He designed and built his own home in Pratt where he was also known for his master gardening and landscaping skills. He served several terms on the Pratt City Council and honored as citizen of the year twice. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church in Montgomery.
He is also survived by his wife Peggy Waller Spelock; one daughter, Linda Enseki and husband, Fred, of Reynoldsville, PA; Sister Toni Bowers of South Charleston; Grandsons Keelan Enseki (Cara) of Pittsburgh, PA and Cameron Enseki (Tonya) of DuBois, PA; and four great granddaughters, Kyrsten, Felicity, Zoie, and Vivianna Enseki.
Service will be 11:00 AM Wednesday at O'Dell Funeral Home, Montgomery with Fr. Mark Gallipeau officiating. Entombment will follow at Montgomery Memorial Park, London. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
