Obituary for Douglas Allen Shabdue

Douglas Allen Shabdue
Douglas Allen Shabdue, 78, of Adena Village, peacefully passed onto the next life on January 10, 2024. He was known for his dedication to family, hard work, and selflessness. His craft for carrying out acts of love and encouragement did not go unnoticed.

Douglas joins his mother, Freda Lee Shabdue Bayes, and father-in-law, R.W. “Bob” Kirby Jr. in eternal life. He was born in Fayette County and graduated from Montgomery High School in 1963. He worked for 40 years underground in the coal mines. “Shabdue” was well-respected by fellow coal workers and those who worked for him throughout his career. Doug was a veteran of the WV Army National Guard. He thoroughly enjoyed WVU athletics, Cincinnati Reds baseball, Golden State basketball, and was an inarguable crossword puzzle “wiz.” As much as he enjoyed these hobbies, his greatest love was “his girls.” He was an outstanding husband, father, and grandfather, and became known as “PawPaw Doug” to the community.

Doug is survived by his wife of 56 years, Donna Kirby Shabdue; daughter, Robyn Mills and her husband, John Mills; granddaughters, Jenna LeRaye Allen and Jadyn Victoria Allen; mother-in-law, Janice Kirby; cousins; and best friends, “like brothers” Sonny Argento and Hammie Reid.

The family would like to thank Sara, Stacey, Lynn, and Leslie of Hospice Care and Jamila Foster for maintaining such a peaceful environment throughout his last days. In addition, special thanks to Montgomery General Hospital, family, friends, and neighbors for all their support throughout this time.

Doug’s family invites the community to join them in the memorial of the beloved at O’Dell Funeral Home on Sunday, January 14, 2024, from 1-3 pm for visitation and service at 3 pm with Minister Craig Petry officiating. O’Dell Funeral Home, Montgomery is in charge of arrangements. Expressions of sympathy can be sent at www.odellfuneralhome.com
