Obituary for Leona Hall Mills

Leona Hall Mills passed away on Sunday, October 22, 2017 at the age of 92. Leona was from Falls View Village, Alloy, West Virginia. She had been living in Florida for the
last five years close to her daughter, Donna Mills Hymes, in Ponte Vedra, Florida.
She was the daughter of the late Andy and Frances Hensley Hall.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George Edward Mills, her son, George Delmer Mills, her grandson, Jeffrey George Mills, her sisters, Arbutus Dunlap, Genevieve Thornton, Glenna Parker, and brothers, Ray Hall, Hubert Hall and Alfred Hall.

She is survived by her daughter, Donna Diana Mills Hymes, daughter-in-law Terry
Grimes Mills, grandchildren Mindy Marie Mills Townsend, Missy Lee Mills, Cindy
Leigh Hymes Howe, Jonathan Edward Mills and seven great grandchildren. She is also
survived by brother-in-law Frank Parker and sister-in-law Joann Hall.

Leona contributed greatly to her beloved community and state of West Virginia.
She was a past Fayette County Deputy Sheriff and worked for the State of West Virginia
Motor Vehicles Department. She was a lifetime member of the West Virginia
Democrats, West Virginia Federation of Women’s Clubs and the Falls View Garden
Club and a member of Kanawha Chapter #38 Order of Eastern Star in Montgomery. She volunteered for many charities such as the American Heart Association, American Cancer Society and The National Foundation March of Dimes. As a young
mother of two in the 1950’s, she founded the Needy Association of Longacre/Smithers
where many people were able to obtain clothes and food for free. She represented her
children well as a Homeroom Mother at Oakland Elementary School. She was very active
with her children whether at basketball or football games cheering her son or guiding her
daughter’s dancing.

In addition to her family and volunteer work, Leona enjoyed flowers and flower
arranging, holiday decorations, interior decorating, birds and a stray cat named Kitty.
Leona was a lifetime resident of Fayette County. She loved her home and was happiest
in the mountains of West Virginia. The family is grateful for the loving care Leona
received from Pat and Sharon Arthur of Falls View Village, her niece Nelda Logan,
friend Susan Nester and all those who made it possible for her to live on her own for so
many years. Leona had a long, prosperous and blessed life and will be missed by her friends and
family.

Service will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, October 28, 2017 at O'Dell Funeral Home in Montgomery with Elder James Dempsey officiating. Entombment will follow in Montgomery Memorial Park at London. Friends may call one hour prior to service at the funeral home where an Eastern Star Memorial Service will be presented by Kanawha Chapter #38 OES prior to the service.
