Missionary Lillie Pearl Taylor, 87 of Kimberly, WV accepted her wings and crown from God on Monday, May 20 after a short illness. She was surrounded by family at the time of her passing. Lillie was born in Carbondale, WV on May 25, 1931 to the parents of the late Charles and Charlotte Jones. Lillie met and married former late husband Edgar Taylor Jr. aka Tippy for 61 years.

They were blessed with 10 children, 9 sons Robert, Larry, Lewis, Edgar, Gerald, Timothy, Russell, Eric, Ricky and one daughter Lillie Ann. She has also been blessed with 20 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great grandkids.

Sister Pearl Taylor was a member of Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church of Chesapeake, WV for 10 years under the ministry of Reverend Vincent Coleman after leaving Mount Zion Baptist Church of Carbondale, WV for over 58 years. She has served under Rev. James Burnette for over 40 years, Rev. Cornell Byers for 16 years and Rev. Robert Morton for 2 years.

During her service at Mount Zion she served as Trustee, President of the Choir for over 34 years, President of the Mission from 1974-2008, Worship and Devotional Leader and Mistress of Ceremonies. She also serves on the board of the Mount Olivet Baptist Association since 1968, and Hilltop State Convention as an Executive Board member and a Board Member of the Women’s Department.

Sister Taylor has worked in the communities of Fayette and Kanawha Counties and served on several boards. She has served on the Fayette County Commission for over 12 years, Fayette County Board of Education from 1978-1979, Head Start Board from 2005-2006, United Community Service food pantry in Montgomery, WV from 1982-2003 and Multi-Capp of Kanawha County. She worked effortlessly to help to make Martin Luther King Day a legal holiday. She has fought for the betterment in Nursing Homes, to help with the children’s clothing voucher program and the school breakfast programs. She is a member of the Black Lung Collation for Coal Miners. She has also ministered to the women in Alderson Prison system.

Sister Taylor has also served as a legal aid advocate for the State of West Virginia and worked with numerous Governors, Mayors and Senators. To name a few she has worked with Senators Byrd and Rockefeller; Governors Wise, Underwood and Caperton. She has worked with Mayor Chuck Smith, Mayor Bradshaw and the late Mayor Melba White.

Sister Taylor graduated from the Seminary Extension classes at Kimberly, WV through the Hilltop Baptist Convention under the Executive Director of Pastor Frank Jones.

Sister Pearl Taylor has always been a woman who has worked for God. She ministers to the people and goes out in the hedges and highways to let her light shine to all who came in contact with her. She has planted her seeds of wisdom to all, her children, grandchildren and daughter in-laws. She is known and loved by all of her extended family as “Mama Pearl” and also as “Mother of the Valley”. Her favorite scripture is the 23rd Psalm and her favorite hymn is “I know who holds tomorrow. (Hymn # 281).

Sister Taylor has spent her entire life being a God fearing, bible believing Baptist. She is a true Missionary, Prayer Warrior and Counselor for God and his son Jesus Christ.

Lillie was proceeded in death by her father Charles L. Jones and mother Charlotte M. Jones and two twin sisters: Samantha Allen and Selena Terry and sons: Robert Taylor, Gerald Taylor (Beverly), Edgar Taylor III (Priscilla), Eric Taylor (Susan), and Larry Taylor & grandchildren Tarone Taylor, Khadidra (Peaches) Taylor and great-grandchild Donovan Taylor.

Lillie Pearl leaves to mourn her one daughter Lillie Ann Taylor of Kimberly, WV and 4 sons, Lewis Taylor (Debbie) of Charleston, WV; Timothy Lee Taylor Sr. (Valerie) of Dunbar, WV; Russell Taylor (Debbie) of Rand, WV; and Ricky Taylor of Institute, WV, 20 grandchildren, 25 great-children, and 5 great-great grandchildren, along with a host of nieces and nephews. She also leaves to mourn special sisters in Christ Ms. Dorothy Walker, Ms. Thomasine Fairfax, Ms. Minnie Davenport, Ms. Lorraine Penn, Ms. Wendy Blair, Ms. Gloria Tyler, Ms. Millie Davis and Ms. Dorothy Terrell.

The Homegoing service will take place at 1pm at First Baptist Church in Charleston, WV on Saturday, May 25th. A viewing will be held the day before at Levi First Missionary Baptist Church in Rand, WV on Friday, May 24, 2019 from 6pm to 8pm. A second visitation with the family will be held two hours prior to the service on Saturday from 11am to 1pm at First Baptist Church, 432 Shrewsbury Street in Charleston, WV. O’Dell Funeral Home, Montgomery is in charge of arrangements.
