Obituary for Lorene B. Penn



Lorene B. Penn journey of life began as the daughter of Adele B, Cohens and Clayborn Brothers. Lorene was born in the state of Alabama on November 30th 1932. She completed her high school education at Washington High School, in London WV. Afterwards, Lorene became a homemaker caring for her children in sports, education, to caring for her late mother Adele Cohen until she passed in January 15, 2007.

Lorene was married to Sylvester Penn Sr., until his passing of June of 2001. She was a born-again believer in Christ and started serving the Lord at an early age and continued to serve the Lord after being called to preach the word of God. As a licensed evangelist preaching the gospel of Christ, she was also a teacher of the word of God , and the founder of The Penn Family Singers, singing with her children spreading the word of joy, and harmony, threw songs of music across the state of WV. She continued, as her health declined to sing, praise, and being a prayer warrior. Until, God called her home on Wednesday, December 11th 2019 at 2:35 pm. She served and worked as a member of the First Baptist Church of Powellton, where Rev. Isaac Kinney is Pastor currently. She served and worked under Pastor Booker, Rev, Murray, Pastor Burks, before Rev. Isaac Kinney became Pastor of The First Baptist Church of Powellton.

Preceeded her in death was her mother and father; Adele B Cohens, Clayborn Brothers, Richard (Happy) Cohens, along with her husband Sylvester Penn Sr. and son Sylvester Penn Jr.

She leaves to cherish her memories with her daughter Margo Penn -Taylor NY, Darnell Penn Ripley WV, and
Dale Bob-Penn of Montgomery WV and Kevin and Stefan Penn of Powellton, Nicole Benson Ambler of NC, with Cameron D. Penn of Cross lanes WV. John Turner and Carl Hickman two that she called and loved as a son, as well as a brother Bobby Russell of Kokomo, Indianapolis, Indiana. Grandchildren, Andrew Gordon of NY, Imani Taylor of NY, Niania Ambler of NC. Lorene leaves to cherish a host of friends, and family as well.

Service will be at 12 noon on Wednesday, December 18, 2019 at Brookside Ministries, Mt. Carbon with Rev. Isaac Kinney officiating. Burial will follow at Kanawha Valley Memorial Gardens, Glasgow. Viewing will be from 11AM till time of service on Wednesday at the church.
