Obituary for Lynda Kay McClung

Mrs. Lynda Kay McClung, 73, of Charlotte, North Carolina, died on April 14, 2016 at the Levine & Dickson Hospice House in Huntersville, NC, of complications due to kidney failure. Lynda was born in Charleston, WV, on September 25, 1942, daughter of the late Wayne Massey and Mamie Kirk Massey. She was a resilient and compassionate woman who had a strong Christian faith.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by the love of her life, her husband Franklin R. McClung, Sr., her brother Bob Massey, and sisters Ella Mae Massey, Virginia Hicks and Doris Camp. Lynda took great pride in her job at Kanawha Valley Bank in Charleston, WV, before she had to retire due to a disability. She devoted much of her life to taking loving care of many of her family members and friends. Before her illness progressed over the last year, she enjoyed playing bingo as much as possible and card games with her family. Spending time with her family was her greatest joy. No matter how badly she felt, she was always up for a family get-together.

Survivors include her loving children, daughter, Angela M. Williams of Charlotte, son Michael Hernandez of Statesville, NC, son Patrick Hernandez of Charlotte, and son Franklin (Peewee) McClung, Jr. and his wife Felicia of Sissonville, WV. Lynda has eight grandchildren, Josh and fiancé Ashley of Pineville, Andrea and her husband Mike Todd of Charlotte, Reili of Charlotte, Michael and Marissa of Montgomery, WV, Casey of Missouri, Christopher of Statesville, Kaitlyn of Sissonsville, WV, and ten great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters Louise Daniels of Charlotte and Peggy Heater of Anderson, WV.

The family thanks Hospice & Palliative Care of Huntersville, NC, and their team of nurses and CNA's for their tender and compassionate care during Lynda’s final days. They also thank the SICU nurses of the Carolinas Medical Center. The family’s thanks also go to Lynda’s many “surrogate” children and grandchildren for their constant help and support.

Services will be held at 1:00 PM Monday at O'Dell Funeral Home, Montgomery with Rev. David Bounds officiating. Burial will follow in Montgomery Memorial Park at London. Friends may call two hours prior to service at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may be sent at www.odellfuneralhome.com
