Obituary for Alice Ann Lett Ballard

Alice Ann Lett Ballard
Alice Ann Lett Ballard, 95, of Montgomery, WV passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on December 21, 2023 at Montgomery Rehab and Nursing after a long courageous battle of dementia.
She was born on December 20, 1928 in Mahan, WV to the late Everett Lett and Virginia Foster Lett. She spent her childhood in the coal camps of Burnwell, WV and often talked about the enjoyable experience of living there with all her family and friends. Her story of surviving the 1932 Paint Creek flood at the young age of four years old was featured in the book “The Flood and the Blood”.
She graduated in 1946 from East Bank High School and then married her loving late husband of 46 years John Ballard and together they built a life and family that she was so proud of. Alice was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother and loved her family unconditionally. She retired as an x-ray technician at Montgomery General Hospital.
Her hobbies were bowling, which included many trophies and tournament awards, gardening and trips to the beach with her family and friends.
She was a big sports fan especially the WVU Mountaineers and also the WVU marching band. She loved attending all her grandchildren’s sporting events during their high school and college years and was her granddaughter Brooke’s biggest fan at all her cheering and dancing events. We will cherish these wonderful memories forever.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband, John Ballard, brother Jerry Lett and sister Norma Proctor.
She will be deeply missed by her surviving family: sisters, Betty Arthur of Shrewsbury, WV, Nancy Meadows of Aberdeen, MD, and sister-in-law Vonnah Lett, of Conway, SC. Her daughter, Vicki Thompson (Carl) of Evans, WV, son, Michael Ballard (Susan) of St Augustine, FL and daughter, Susan Ingram (Greg) of Montgomery, WV. Surviving grandchildren, Greg Thompson, Lisa Carter, Todd Thompson, Kevin Thompson, Chasity Dinklocker and Brooke Ingram; 13 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Montgomery Rehab and Nursing, Montgomery, WV for their loving care, kindness and friendship given to our mother for over five years. We also extend gratitude to Marilyn McCallister and Linda Hamilton who provided our mother care, love and friendship.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, December 27th at 1:00 pm at O’Dell Funeral Home in Montgomery, WV with Pastor Lee Swor officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to service. Burial will follow at Montgomery Memorial Gardens, London, WV.
