Obituary for Betty June Stephenson

Betty June  Stephenson
Betty June Stephenson passed peacefully from this life on January 8, at Gilpin Hall, Wilmington DE with family at her side. She was 91 years old.
She was born July 9, 1932, to the late John W. Stanley and Hazel Stanley Adkins of Gallagher WV during the 1932 Paint Creek flood. Her story was featured in the book, "The Flood and the Blood".

Betty was a resident of Dover DE for 67 years and was an employee of the Diamond State Telephone Company in the 1950s. She then dedicated herself to her family, home and helping friends and neighbors. Her helpful spirit was evident even in her last days. Betty was also a very active volunteer for several years with the American Heart Association and as a Girl Scout troop leader, and then later with the Dover High School band boosters.

She was preceded in death by the love of her life since they were teenagers, her husband Jack. She was also predeceased by her brothers, John Stanley of Galagher WV and Wiliam Stanley of Cleveland, OH.

She is survived by her daughter Sheri Okladek Bailey (Jim) of Wilmington DE; grandsons Derek Okladek (Patty) of Douglasville PA and Karl Okladek of Pottstown PA; great-granddaughter Gabrielle Okladek. She is also survived by a loving host of nieces and nephews.

Torbert Funeral Chapels of Dover DE is in charge of preparations and transportation to her home state of West Virginia. Services will be held at O’Dell Funeral Home in Montgomery WV at 11AM on Saturday; burial will follow at Montgomery Memorial Park in London WV.
