Obituary for Billy Lee Bass

Billy Lee Bass Sr. age 84 of Elkridge died June 1, 2011 at home after from Black Lung and Congestive Heart Failure. He was born October 18, 1926 in Cabin Creek and was the son of the late William Elmer and Marvel Stone Bass. He was also preceded in death by his wife Lula “Boobie” Farley Bass, his daughter Donna Lou Bass, his son Billy Lee Bass Jr.; grandson Benjamin Bass and brothers Kenny Bass Jimmy Bass and Bob Bass and sister Frances Burnside and daughter-in-law Annette Bass.
He was a US Army Veteran and paratrooper in World War II and a recipient of the Bronze Star. He worked many years at Semet-Solvay Coal at Harewood and retired from Central Appalachian Coal Company in Montgomery. He was a previous member of the Church of God of Prophecy in Deep Water.
He was a strong, private and humble man. No one ever knew exactly what was on his mind. He was a religious man, who had a nightly date with his recliner and the Gaither’s. His bible was worn and filled with scriptures marked to reference at any time. His motto always was “God will never give you more than you can handle”.
Surviving: daughters Marvel Comer and her husband Tommy of Canvas and Diana Jackson and her husband Dennis of Amma; son Bruce Bass of Elkridge; brothers Gene Bass and his wife Donna of LaPlata, MD and Troy Bass and his wife Bessie of Montgomery; sister Phyllis Settle of Pinch; grandchildren Andrea Gwinn, Tommy Comer, Scott Bass, Billy Comer, Randy Bass, Jennifer Bass, Christina Gunnoe, Bruce Bass Jr., Abel Bass, Tyler Jackson, Ashley Jackson and Heath Jackson; 17 grandchildren.
Service will be 1:00 PM Monday at O’Dell Funeral Home, Montgomery with Rev. Roger Comer officiating. Burial will follow in Montgomery Memorial Park at London. Friends may call from 6 until 9 on Sunday at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy can be sent at www.odellfuneralhome.com
