Obituary for Cindy Lynn Walker

Cindy L. Walker, 49 of Boomer, WV and Atlanta, GA, departed this life at CAMC Memorial, Charleston, WV on July 24, 2016.

Cindy was preceded in death by her Grandparents; Thelma and Fred Fitzwater, Glen and Emel Walker all of Boomer. Cindy had a special relationship with her Grandparents having spent many early summers growing up in Boomer.

Cindy is survived by her Mother; Brenda Walker Mitchell(James) of Sheridan, AR.
Father; Ray Walker of Boomer and Newnan, GA. Brother; Glenn(Rhonda)Walker of Little Rock, AR. Step Brothers; Eddie(Melanie)Mitchell, Dennis(Robin) Mitchell, of Sheridan, AR. Uncle; Gary(Fay) Walker of Victor, WV. Cousins; Gary Walker, JR. Jennifer Walker and Suzan Walker, Madison, Mike, Jacob, Daniel and Mekelaih.

Cindy graduated from high school in Little Rock and attended the University of AR at Little Rock. She attended the Atlanta Arts Institute and graduated from Lagrange College(GA) with a degree in nursing. She worked as a Neuro ICU Nurse at Emory University and Piedmont Hospital, Atlanta. She opened a new Neuroscience ICU and managed the Service Line and Stroke Center at St Joseph's Hospital in Atlanta. Served as Director of Professional Nursing Development at Piedmont Hospital. Served as Acute Rehab Director at North Fulton Hospital in Roswell, GA. Was an Assistant VP of Operations and Quality at Jackson Hospital in Montgomery, AL. Served as Director of Quality at The Jewish Hospital in Cincinnati, OH. Jewish Hospital had the best of thirteen other hospitals in the division on scores for the Joint Commission Survey. She led the hospital to three Joint Commission Accreditations on joint replacement and bone marrow transplants. Throughout her career Cindy always raised the bar on performance, patient safety and quality measures.

Cindy held a BS and MS Degrees in Healthcare Administration from Bellevue University. Cindy held certificates in healthcare from The Studer Group and Lean Sigma from the U of Alabama. She was a member of American College of Healthcare Executives. She participated in many healthcare seminars at various hospitals to advance healthcare for all.

Family and everyone who knew Cindy will miss her smiling face and unusual wit.

A graveside service will be held at Kanawha Valley Memorial Gardens, Glasgow, WV on Wednesday, July 27th at 10 AM. with Pastor Justin Seay officiating. O'Dell Funeral Home, Montgomery is in charge of arrangements. Expressions of sympathy may be sent at www.odellfuneralhome.com

The family would like to acknowledge Dr. DePriest, his team of physicians, Nurses Joe, Rick and the dozens on the medical staff that gave it all for six day's trying to save Cindy. They worked constantly trying everything medically possible. You were great.

Cindy was a Baptist by faith.
