Obituary for Clarence Weeden Bess Sr.

Clarence W. Bess Sr. age 94 of Cannelton went home to be with Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on March 11, 2016. He was predeceased by his wife Ruby Humphries Bess and daughters Linda Lutes, Phyllis Myers, and Carolyn Sue Bess.

He was a member of Carbondale Baptist Church and a World War II veteran of the Army. He was a retired coal miner and member of the UMWA.

Surviving: children Clarence Bess Jr. and wife Jo of Hurricane, Jean Johnson of Scott Depot, Helen Schoolcraft and husband Richard of Cannelton, Marie Comer and husband Mike of Cannelton, Richard Bess and wife Becky of Cannelton, Marilyn Butcher and husband Allen of Kimberly, Vicky Moore of St. Albans, Gary Bess and wife Tina of Cannelton, Tim Bess and wife Debbie of St. Albans, Mark Bess and wife Gwen of Cannelton; son-in-law Ray Lutes of Parkersburg; former daughter-in-law and family friend Norma Bess of Cannelton; 26 grandchildren, 6 step-grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren and 5 step-great-grandchildren.

Service will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday at Carbondale Baptist Church with Rev. Ron Eagle and Pastor Jeff Floyd officiating. Burial will follow in Kanawha Valley Memorial Gardens at Glasgow with military honors. Friends may call on Tuesday from 6:00 PM until 9:00 PM at the church.
