Obituary for Donna Grounds Abbott

Donna Grounds Abbott, 89 of Mt. Carbon, WV went to join her husband Jennings Abbott, sons Rick and Steve, and grandchildren Todd and Nikki on December 10, 2023.

She was also predeceased by her parents, George and Wilda Grounds, brother George Grounds Jr., sisters Betty Lee Fluharty and Carolyn Jones.

Left to cherish her memory are her son Terry Abbott (Debbie) and daughters Patricia Esterby and Machele Abbott all of Mt. Carbon.

She is also survived by grandsons Greg and Shane, granddaughters; Rikki Abbott (James), Erica Divita (Paul), Melissa Renault (Karl) and Miranda Pollom (Luther), great grandchildren Keeley, Alexander, Dukarei, Ella, Draven, Dylan, Tobias, Jacob, Olivia, Natalie, Amanda, McKenzie, and Jackson. She was awaiting her first great great grandchild, Evelyn in March.

Donna was born in Wheeling, WV and moved to Fayette County at age 13. After leaving school to marry the love of her life, she returned with 4 kids in tow and graduated among the top in her class from Montgomery High School. She then pursued a degree from WVIT. After graduation she worked as a legal secretary for noted attorney, Gordon Billheimer. She was later employed at DuPont and retired in 1996 to spend more time with her ailing husband.

She loved reading and was always first on the list to get a new mystery novel from the library. She adored the color purple and it's rare to find a picture of her without her signature color. She spent many weekends watching the Mountaineers, the Steelers and Jeff Gordon. She never met a dog she didn't love, and she even found it in her heart to love one cat. Above all else she loved her family and sacrificed for them endlessly.

Funeral Services will be held at 2pm on Saturday, December 16, 2023, at O'Dell Funeral Home in Montgomery, visitation will be one hour prior. She will be buried at Kanawha Valley Memorial Gardens in Glasgow beside her husband.

Special thanks goes to Hospice of Southern WV, her personal caregivers, Nikki Williams, Sue Wright, and Liz Purdue, and everyone who sent love and support.

In lieu of flowers please make a donation to one of her two biggest loves: Fayette County Animal Shelter or Montgomery Library.

O’Dell Funeral Home, Montgomery is in charge of arrangements. Expressions of sympathy can be sent at www.odellfuneralhome.com
