Obituary for Faird Tackett Jr.

Faird Tackett Jr. of Boomer went home to be with the Lord on May 6, 2009. Born June 18, 1923 to Faird Tackett Sr. and Ida Belle Tackett “Junior” was a World War II Marine veteran. He was a lifelong coal miner and foreman from Semet Solvay at Harewood and retired in 1980 after more than 31 years of service.
In addition to his parents Junior was preceded in death by a son Thomas; two brothers Joe and Raymond Tackett: two sisters Marjorie Young and Mary Katherine “Kat” Pettitt.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Naomi Ruth Perry Tackett; daughters Sharon Steuerwald and husband Mark of Brevard, NC, Tammy Elam and husband James of Lake Wales, FL and Jeanne Ann Neff and husband Chris of Summersville; sons Jim Tackett and wife Sara of Red House and Joey Tackett and wife Anna of Mt. Carbon; grandchildren Joey and Kristen Elam, Julie Neff, Emily and Landon Tackett, Naomi Jordan and Jacob Tackett and one great-grandson due in September; brothers Bert Tackett and his wife Margaret of Smithers, John Tackett and his wife Norma of Oak Hill, Frank Tackett and wife Friedel of Huntsville, AL; one sister Renee Rogers and her husband Maurice of Clinton, IA; numerous nieces and nephews.
At his request the body will be cremated. Visitation for family and friends will be from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM on Saturday May 9, 2009 at the Smithers Church of God where he was a faithful usher for the past 3 years. A memorial service will follow on Saturday at 1:30 PM with Pastor Joe Hubbard officiating. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Smithers Church of God in Junior’s memory.
