Gary Wayne “Big Red” Roat, 62 of Smithers, died October 29, 2013. He was born March 15, 1951, in London to George and Imogene Oiler Roat. He is preceded in death by is brother, Elmer “Bo” Roat; sisters, Alice Jarrett and Libby Petry.

He was a coal miner and a member of UMWA Dist. 17.

Surviving in addition to his parents are is wife, Vicky Roat; son, Richard and his wife Stacey Hensley of Boomer; stepdaughters Crystal Sodder of Grayson, KY and Cyndi Bryann of Smithers; sister Georgie Watson of Cannelton, Sharon Fannin “Jim” of Cannelton and Diana Legg of Cannelton; Ten grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at O’Dell Funeral Home, Montgomery, with the Rev. Ron Eagle officiating. Burial will follow in Kanawha Valley Memorial Gardens, Glasgow.
