Obituary for Gracie Lea McCarty
Gracie was born on January 10, 1951 in Montgomery, WV. She went home to be with the Lord on September 4, 2017 after a sudden illness.
Gracie accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age while at the Bethel Baptist Church in Cannelton under the pastoral leadership of Reverend Floyd Hosea. She was a graduate of Cedar Grove High School, previously employed at Libby Owens Ford, Montgomery General Hospital and retired from Kanawha County Schools.
She was preceded in death by her mother Estell Jones Johnson and brother Cecil H. Johnson.
Gracie leaves to cherish her memory her father James "Rabbit" Johnson; brothers James W. Johnson Jr. of Cannelton and Will Johnson (Norma) of Athens; six sisters Hattie "Janey" Johnson and Rev. Judy Ross-Moore both of Charleston, Scharrie "Sherry" Jones of Handley, Rose Johnson of Cannelton, Sarah McKenzie (Calvin) of Quitman, MS and Jacqueline A. Faison of Newark, DE and a hose of nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
Service will be held at 12:00 Noon on Saturday, September 9, 2017 at O'Dell Funeral Home, Montgomery with Rev. Michael Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Kanawha Valley Memorial Gardens at Glasgow. Friends may visit one hour prior to service at the church
