Obituary for Jerome Levi Burs

Jerome Levi  Burs
Jerome Levi Burs, 70 of Montgomery, WV passed from his earthly home on March 31,
2024. He was born on April 7, 1953, in Montgomery, WV to the late Johnnie Lee Burs, Sr. and
Mildred (Brown) Burs. He was a graduate of Montgomery High School and attended West
Virginia State University. Jerome was known to many as, Ronnie, JB, Chrome Rome, Jango,
Papa Rome, Brother-Brother and Jay. He never met a stranger, loved everyone, and wanted to
make sure that everyone was alright.
He retired from Elkem Metals with 42 years of service. Jerome accepted Jesus at an early age
at Morning Star Baptist Church in Deepwater, WV. He was a Deacon at Ebenezer Baptist
Church in Charleston, WV, and a longtime member of the Martin Luther King Male Chorus.
Jerome was preceded in death by his father, two brothers, Johnnie L. “Bug” Burs, Jr. and Larry
“Lucky” Burs, son Kevin L. Palmer, Brother in Love Minister Larry Z. Medcalf, and Sister in Love
Alberta Murray-Casey.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Tina L. Burs; Mother, Mildred Burs; Daughters: Pia Terrell
of Columbus, OH, Ariane Burs (Steven Osborne) of Charleston, Tish Brisco (JD Lambert) of
Charleston, Stephanie Murray of Charlotte, NC, and Ashlie Palmer (Darrell Reynolds) of
Montgomery; Sons: Mann Brisco and Tredan Brisco of Charleston, Eric (Tisjauana) Palmer of
Charleston. Brothers: Ray Burs of Deepwater, R. Glenn (Kathy) Burs of Smithers, Keith
(Jayleah) Burs of Dunbar, Bishop Calvin (Eletha) Murray of Monroe, LA, Marshall (Leigh-Ann)
Murray of Beckley, and Bishop Thomas (Arnise) Murray, Jr. of Belle. Sisters: Bathsheba Burkes
and Carol (Terrell) Evans of Charleston, Dinah Burs and Linda Neal of Charlotte, NC, Stacy
Murray-Medcalf of South Point, OH. Special Daughter: Brandy McNabb of Montgomery, WV.
Uncle: Curtis Burs of Charlotte, NC. Aunts: Pam (John) Valentine of Charleston, and Pandora
Peoples of Columbus, OH. 20 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, numerous nephews,
nieces, cousins, and friends.
Services will be held at Brookside Ministries COGIC, 18419 Deepwater Mountain Rd., Mount
Carbon, WV 25139, on Saturday, April 6, 2024. Family viewing at 10:30AM, Public viewing at
11:00AM, and Homegoing Celebration at 12 noon with Bishop Thomas R. Murray, Jr. and
Marshall K. Murray officiating. Services entrusted to O’Dell Funeral Home, Montgomery, WV, where
