Obituary for John Lewis Johnson

John Lewis Johnson age 86 of Powellton died October 24, 2011. He was born September 19, 1925 at Alum Creek and was the son of the late Ernest and Lena Davis Johnson. He was also preceded in death by 5 brothers and 2 sisters.
He was a member of Powellton United Methodist Church and he was retired from American Electric Power Company, Glasgow, WV plant with 33 years of service. He was the 1st employee of the Glasgow plant and retired as a master maintenance man and welder. He was a WWII and Korean War veteran of the US Marine Corps and was a Staff Sergeant. He was the recipient of the Purple Heart and the Korean Service Metal with 3 Bronze Stars. He was founder and former Chief of the Armstrong Creek VFD and a faithful visitor of the residents of Montgomery Elderly Care. Johnny was an avid hunter, fisherman and gardener.
Surviving is his wife of 65 years, Christine Black Johnson; sons John A. Johnson and his companion Rebecca of Alderson and Greg Johnson and his wife Doris of Cannelton; brother Jack Johnson of Cleveland, Ohio; grandchildren John Paul Johnson and his wife Kelly, Christina Neal and her husband Adam, Michelle Miller, Tina Johnson and Tony Johnson and his wife Jessica; great-grandchildren Haylee, Devin, Dylan, Kennedy, Grayson, Hunter, Ridge, Ryan and Olivia.
Service will be 2:00 PM Thursday at Powellton United Methodist Church with Rev. Joe Darlington and Rev. Leonard Nichols officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Montgomery Memorial Park at London. Friends may call from 6 until 9 on Wednesday at O’Dell Funeral Home, Montgomery.
