Obituary for Marshall Diaz

Marshall L. “Jr.” Diaz, 85, of Mt. Carbon will be reunited with his first wife Thelma, son Marshall Lance, and brothers Clifford and Bill after leaving this earth peacefully surrounded by his adoring family on January 13, 2014. Marshall was born May 2, 1928, in Lochgelly and was the son of the late Marshall and Ethel Diaz.
Marshall was devoted to his family and enjoyed spending his time golfing, traveling, and tending to his immaculate yard and beautiful roses. He always had a good joke or story to tell and made a friend everywhere he went. He retired from Elkem Metals after 39 years of service. He was a wealth of knowledge and a source of happiness to all those around him. He will never be forgotten.
Those left to keep his memory alive include his beloved wife, Helen; daughters, Marsha Stiltner and her husband Dean of Mt.Carbon, Diana “Dee Dee” Diaz of Cross Lanes, and Kera Diaz of Colorado; stepchildren, Gary Boyd and his wife Lynn of Beckley, and Connie Gallaher of Tennessee; granddaughter, Brianne Diaz-Morgan, with whom he shared a special bond and her husband Brian of Virginia; step grandchildren, Jessica Mainella and husband Tony of Colorado, Tony Pell of Milton, Josh Boyd and wife Susan of Beckley, and Sam Gallaher of Florida; sisters, Dolores Houchins from Ohio and Juanita Perry and her husband Albert from North Carolina; brother, Donald Diaz and his wife Nancy from Indiana. He will be missed and honored by his 12 great grandchildren, 3 of whom are his namesake.
Marshall was passionate about his love of dogs and spent one of his last days with a special K9 friend. Because of this the family asks that if you too are a dog lover, you make a donation in his name to your favorite animal shelter.
The family would also like to extend its sincerest gratitude to Dr. Steven Jubelirer and the staff at the David Lee Cancer Center and all the wonderful nurses and the staff on the second floor of Montgomery General Hospital, with special thanks to Sherry Robinson and Dr. Kristina Hawkins.
A tribute to the life of Marshall L. “Jr.” Diaz will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, January 18, at O’Dell Funeral home in Montgomery, with Pastor Jeff Floyd officiating. Inturment will follow at a later date in Kanawha Valley Memorial Gardens, Glasgow.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
