Obituary for Mary Evelyn Valentine

Mary Evelyn Valentine
Mary Evelyn Valentine, 84, of Mt. Carbon, passed away December 26, 2023, at her home. She was born on September 22, 1939. She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Johnny D. Valentine; parents Elmer and Virginia Stiltner; brothers and sisters in-law, Tommy and Barbara Valentine and Guy and Ella Lou Harvey.

She was a graduate of Montgomery High School and was a school bus driver for Fayette County Schools for many years. Evelyn had been told that she must have been put on this earth to take care of others as she did just that throughout her life. She always put others needs ahead of her own. She had an amazing willpower to keep pushing herself, even when she felt bad, because she had “things to do”. She was an amazing cook and baker and loved cooking for everyone. She had a love for plants and every year she had a beautiful flower garden that she enjoyed. Her family was her life, and she gave her all to make sure they were happy and healthy. Evelyn was a very special person to all who knew her.

She is survived by her son, John Valentine and wife Jackie of Waxhaw, NC; daughters Mary Valentine Whittaker and husband Dennis Whittaker of Crawley, WV and Layna Valentine-Brown and husband Terry Brown of Kimberly, WV; grandsons, Johnny Valentine, Ethan Clay and Travis Clay; granddaughters, Abigail Valentine and Ashlynn Brown; sister, Helen Turner; brother, Dean Stiltner and wife Marsha; niece Diana Sandoro; nephews, Danny Valentine, Terry Harvey, Tim Harvey, and Charles Turner.

The family would like to thank Kanawha Hospice Care for all of their care, especially Stacey and Leslie. O’Dell Funeral Home in Montgomery is in charge of arrangements.

At Evelyn’s request there will be a private service for her family. Expressions of sympathy can be sent at www.odellfuneralhome.com
