Mary Mattea Wilcox of Millersville, MD formerly of Smithers, WV died peacefully on August 15, 2009 surrounded by family and after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer’s. Mary was born in Smithers, WV on November 11, 1917. She is survived by her daughter, Anita Wilcox Malloy and her husband Terry, children Laurie, Anne and Molly of Gainesville, FL; sons Peter Wilcox and his wife Margaret and daughter Colleen of Millersville, MD and Tom Wilcox and his wife Dianne and children Tom, II. Tim and Bob of Aiken, SC, nieces, nephews and 7 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.
Mary worked as a pediatric nurse at St. Mary’s hospital Huntington, WV and Montgomery hospital, Montgomery, WV. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Wilcox; brother, John Mattea and sisters Julia, Josephine, Pauline and Kathleen.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 AM Tuesday August 18, 2009 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Montgomery with Fr. John Rice as celebrant. Burial will follow in Montgomery Memorial Park at London. Friends may call on Monday from 6 until 8 at O’Dell Funeral Home, Montgomery where a Christian Wake service will be held at 8:00 PM.
