Obituary for Richard Lee Skaggs

Richard Lee  Skaggs
Richard Skaggs age 76 of Mt. Carbon went home to heaven Dec. 23,2015. He was preceded in death by his parents Charles and Dorothy Fetters Skaggs and his wife and mother of his sons Nancy Leavens Skaggs. He was a member of Carbondale Baptist Church, Cannelton,WV
Left to cherish his memory wife Anna Walker Moore Skaggs; Son Richard "Chug" Skaggs and his wife Karen, grandson Corey Skaggs, granddaughter Laruen Skaggs and Son Jason Skaggs all of Mount Carbon, sister Brenda Skaggs Harris and husband Tommy; nephews, nieces and sister-in laws Betty Leavens Boggess and Ruth Leavens both of Kimberly and a great host of friends.
He graduated from West Virginia Tech with his B.S. in Mining Engineering in 1958. After graduation he began his career at Harewood in the engineering department, rising to Assistant Superintentent. He left Harewood to become Superintentant at Valley Camp Coal Company in 1972. After a fufilling and succesful career at Valley Camp, he moved on to help develop and become Vice President/ General Manager of Elk Run Coal in 1980. At Elk Run he achieved many goals and made so many life long friends. In 1988 he went on to become President of Peerless Eagle Coal Company in Summersville and finished his career. After retirement he helped with several buisnesses in consulting role.
We would like to express our thanks to all the third floor nurses and doctors at Charleston Memorial for the care and support of Richard and our family during this difficult time. Also for the home care nurses and staff "God bless you".
Service will be 2:00 PM Tuesday at O'Dell Funeral Home, Montgomery with Rev. Jeff Floyd, Rev. Gary Tucker and Rev. Ron Eagle officiating with Gary Bess as vocalist. Burial will follow in Kanawha Valley Memorial Gardens at Glasgow. Friends may call from 6:00 PM until 9:00 PM on Monday at the funeral home and also one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Tuesday.
